1916 – On September 5, Frank Garvin Yerby was born in Augusta, Georgia.

 

1933 - Yerby graduated from Haines Normal and Industrial Institute

 

1937 - He earned a degree from Paine College.   

 

1938 - Yerby received an M.A. degree from Fisk University in Nashville, Tenn.

 

1940 – Frank Yerby begins teaching English at Southern University and at A & M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

 

1941 – Yerby marries his first wife Flora Helen Claire Williams.

 

1944 -  Frank Yerby has his short story Health Card publish in Harper’s Magazine.

 

           The story later wins the O. Henry Memorial Award for best first short story.

 

1944 – 45 - Yerby worked in an aircraft factory in Jamaica, Queens, New York. 

 

1946 –Yerby’ s first historical novel The Foxes of Harrow is published.

 

1947 - The Foxes of Harrow becomes a film directed by John M. Stahl. Starring Rex Harrison and Maureen O'Hara.

 

1947 – Frank Yerby publishes the novel The Vixens.

 

1948 - Yerby’ s novel The Golden Hawk is published.

 

1949 – The novel Pride's Castle is published.

 

1950 – The novel Floodtide. published.

 

1951 – The novel A Woman Called Fancy is published.

 

1952 - The Golden Hawk another Yerby novel is adapted into a film, directed by Sidney Salkow and starring  Rhonda Fleming and Sterling Hayden.

 

1952- The novel The Saracen Blade is published.

 

1953 - The Devil's Laughter is published.

 

1954 – Yerby’ s novels Benton's Row and Bride of Liberty are published.

 

1954 – The novel The Treasure of Pleasant Valley is also published.

 

1954 - The Saracen Blade is adapted into a film directed by William Castle and starring Ricardo Montalban.

 

1955 - Yerby leaves the United States in protest against Racial discrimination and moves to Spain

 

1956 – Yerby’s novels Captain Rebel and Jarrett's Jade is published. Frank Yerby marries for the second time to Blanca Calle Perez

 

1957 – The novel Fairoaks is published.

 

1958 - The Serpent and the Staff is published.

 

1960 – The novel Gillian is published.

 

1961 - The Garfield Honor is published.

 

1962 - Griffin's Way is published.

 

1964 - The Old Gods Laugh: A Modern Romance is published.

 

1965 - An Odor of Sanctity is published.

 

1966 – Ebony Magazine publishes a story about Yerby by Hoyt W. Fuller entitled‘Famous Writer Faces Challenge’.

 

1967 - Goat Song: A Novel of Ancient Greece is published.

 

1969 - Judas, My Brother: The Story of the Thirteenth Disciple and Speak Now are published.

 

1971 - The Dahomean is published.

 

1972 - The Girl from Storyville: A Victorian Novel is published.

 

1974 – The novels The Voyage Unplanned and Tobias and the Angel are published.

 

1976 – The novel A Rose for Ana Maria is published. Frank Yerby is presented an honorary degree from Fisk University.                                                                                                              

 

1977 - The novel Hail the Conquering Hero is published. Frank Yerby is presented an honorary degree from Pain College

 

1979 - The novel A Darkness at Ingraham's Crest is published.

 

1982 - The novel Western: A Saga of the Great Plains is published.

 

1984 – The novel The novel Devilseed is published.

 

1985 - The novel McKenzie's Hundred is published.

 

1991- Frank Garvin Yerby dies of congestive heart failure in Madrid, Spain.

 

2006 - Yerby was posthumously inducted into the Georgia Writers Hall of Fame.

 

2013 - The Augusta Literary Festival creates an award to honor Frank Yerby/during the Festival.
